IN SHORT
  • A trim-tab autopilot: a small servo on a small tab lets aerodynamic force do the work — a fraction of the weight and panel space of servo autopilots
  • Heading, altitude, vertical speed, flight-plan steering, HOLD, envelope protection and auto trim
  • A full iLevil AW inside: AHRS, air data, WAAS GPS, dual-band ADS-B In
WHAT'S IN THE BOX
  • iLevil AP sensor unit (Levil Aviation box)
  • Trim-tab kit — servos and tabs sized to your cruise speed (Aircraft Automation box)

Details.

Heavy servos are how a certified autopilot moves a control surface, and their weight, their linkages and their installation are why most light aircraft fly without one. The iLevil AP moves a trim tab instead, and lets aerodynamic force do the work: a small servo on a small tab, riveted or bonded to the surface, gives a light-sport or Experimental aircraft a usable autopilot at a fraction of the weight and panel space.

What it flies

  • Heading mode — holds a heading from the internal compass and GPS
  • Altitude mode — climbs to, descends to and holds an altitude
  • Vertical speed — a rate you set
  • Flight-plan steering — follows the route on the tablet
  • HOLD — wings level, altitude kept, when you need both hands
  • Envelope protection — will not let the autopilot fly the aircraft out of its limits
  • Auto trim — keeps the aircraft trimmed as the load changes

An iLevil AW inside

The sensor box is a full iLevil: AHRS, pitot-static airspeed and pressure altitude, WAAS GPS, dual-band ADS-B In traffic and weather, data recording. It runs on 12 to 28 V with a 3.5 hour backup battery, and connects to an engine analyser too.

Control from where your hand is

From the tablet, or from the Levil Aviation Joy — the control grip with the NAV button that engages the autopilot and follows the flight plan — or from the wired iLevil AP Controller for a hardwired installation.

What is in the box

One Levil Aviation box with the iLevil AP sensor unit, and one Aircraft Automation box with the trim-tab kit — the servos and the tabs, sized to your aircraft's cruise speed.

  • Sensor box 3.2 × 5 × 1.1 inches, 311 g
  • Each trim kit including its servo 150 g; tab 12 inches long, 2 inch moving section

Trim-tab kits are sized by cruise speed: Small 140–180 kt, Medium 120–140 kt, Large 80–120 kt, Jumbo 50–80 kt.

Questions pilots ask.

Which trim-tab kit do I need?

By the speed you actually cruise at: Small 140–180 kt, Medium 120–140 kt, Large 80–120 kt, Jumbo 50–80 kt.

How is it controlled?

From the tablet, from the Levil Aviation Joy grip with its NAV button, or from the wired iLevil AP Controller for a hardwired installation.
