A Levil unit mounted behind the panel has traded the glareshield's view of the sky for a tidy installation — and its GPS has to be told about it. The RAMI AV-801 is an external aviation GPS antenna, mounted on the airframe with a clear view up, so the receiver inside the aircraft gets the signal it would have had on the glareshield.

When you need it

For an iLevil 3 AW, iLevil AP or Astro+ in a permanent installation away from the windows, especially in a metal or carbon aircraft. If the unit sits where it can see the sky, the internal antenna is enough.

What it is

An aviation-grade external GPS antenna from R.A. Miller Industries, built and mounted the way transponder and nav antennas are — through the skin, with a ground plane — rather than a puck on the dashboard. Ask us about the connection to your Levil unit before ordering.

The AV-801 is the heavier-duty, through-the-skin installation with a ground plane; the Levil WAAS GPS antenna is a compact remote antenna on a lead for the glareshield or under a non-conductive cover. Ask us about the connection to your Levil unit before ordering.
