Some instruments measure the air and some show it, and the ones that show it sometimes need to know where they are. The GPS mouse is a compact GPS receiver with its own antenna, delivering position, time and speed over a serial line to whatever asks for it.

Where it goes

  • On an iris Display Gen 2, to make it a standalone chrono with GPS time and flight time
  • On a KTX2 transponder through the KBS1X harness, as the position source for ADS-B Out
  • On any RS232 device that wants NMEA position data

Placement

The antenna is inside the mouse, so the mouse goes where the sky is: on the glareshield, under a non-conductive cover, not under carbon or metal. The lead runs to the instrument's serial port.
