Details.

In a two-seat glider the instrument panel the instructor sees is usually a compromise. The LX 10K D is the same instrument as the LX 10K in the front seat — the same 80 mm unit, the same 3.5 inch transflective display, the same knobs and buttons — connected to it over one CAN cable and showing everything it knows. The vario, the task, the airspace, the final glide and the traffic are in both cockpits, not only the front one.

What it takes from the front seat

The front-seat LX 10K owns the sensors, the GPS and the flight recorder. The D takes all of that over the bus, so nothing is plumbed twice and the two units never disagree: one set of air data, one position, one logbook. What the D adds is a second place to see it and a second set of hands that can work it.

Made for training

An instructor who can see the same final-glide picture as the student can teach it rather than describe it. A passenger who can see the map is a passenger who is not asking where you are. In a club two-seater, the D is the difference between a flight computer and a flight computer in the front.

Its own indicator, if you want one

Like the front unit, the D drives a vario indicator over the CAN bus — add a digital vario indicator in 57 or 80 mm for the rear seat, or let the D carry the vario on its own screen.

In the panel

  • 80 mm cutout, 82 × 82 × 52 mm
  • 3.5 inch transflective display, portrait
  • CAN bus to the front-seat LX 10K: data and configuration over one cable
  • No pitot, static, GPS or logger of its own

Requires an LX 10K in the front seat. Non-TSO.

Questions pilots ask.

Does the LX 10K D work on its own?

No. It has no pitot, static, GPS or logger of its own — it repeats the front-seat LX 10K over the CAN bus and needs one in the front seat.

Can it drive its own vario indicator?

Yes — like the front unit it drives a digital vario indicator in 57 or 80 mm over the CAN bus, or carries the vario on its own screen.
